ORAL HYGIENE
Why is oral hygiene important?
Regular teeth brushing and cleaning between teeth helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy, and helps to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Other things that may help include mouthwashes, tongue cleaning, and eating a healthy diet, which includes limiting sugary drinks and foods. Studies have shown that the bacteria found in plaque are also in the arteries and can contribute to heart disease and other diseases. If you smoke, stopping will improve oral hygiene. Have a dental check-up at least twice a year.
Why do I have to visit an oral hygienist?
Dental plaque is formed on the teeth everyday and we can remove this by brushing and flossing. After time, some of the plaque will harden to form tartar(calculus) that cannot be removed with brushing alone. It is important to visit the oral hygienist for a professional cleaning in order to get rid of the built up tartar. The oral hygienist will also teach you the proper methods for brushing and flossing. A professional cleaning visit also include Flouride treatment which aids in the prevention of tooth decay.
