TEETH WHITENING
BIOLASE Teeth Whitening:
This is a laser teeth whitening procedure done by your dentist or oral hygienist in the dental office. The advantage of this method is that the results are immediate. Laser energy is absorbed by special particles in the whitening gel to activate the hydrogen peroxide, which accelerates the whitening process faster than “simple” light does, so the procedure time is dramatically shorter.
- After a proper examination, the teeth will be cleaned to ensure that superficial plaque and stains are removed
- The gums will be isolated and the whitening gel applied to the teeth.
- The whitening gel is then activated with the laser.
- The procedure will done in one hour.
"Home Bleaching":
This can be done by you in the comfort of your home whenever you have time.
The Process:
- The dentist or oral hygienist will take impressions of your teeth in order to manufacture bleaching trays that are custom made to fit your mouth.
- You will be provided with whitening gel to use with your bleaching trays.
- The amount of time and sessions needed for optimal results will depend on the concentration of bleaching agent in the whitening gel.
Frequently asked questions about Teeth Whitening:
This can be answered best after a dentist or oral hygienist examined your teeth. Teeth with a yellow undertone tend to bleach better than teeth with a blue or brown undertone. Teeth with antibiotic or fluoride stains may not bleach evenly.
Crowns or tooth coloured fillings present on your front teeth will unfortunately not bleach along with the natural tooth structure. The need to replace crowns or fillings after bleaching will be assessed before the whitening procedure.
This differs from person to person. With laser whitening, patients have experienced little to no sensitivity. Because of the unique properties of the laser, the gel-to-tooth contact time is about half as long as other in-office whitening systems that use a similar concentration of hydrogen peroxide gel. Less contact time results in less sensitivity.
When the laser shines on the teeth, patients experience a warm sensation, but it is not painful or discomforting. The laser shines on the teeth for only short, 30-second intervals, compared to other light-based in-office whitening systems that shine a heat-producing lamp for several minutes at a time.
The BIOLASE whitening gel kit also includes a syringe of desensitizing gel with potassium nitrate that can be applied after the procedure to further minimize sensitivity.
No, teeth whitening is not dangerous to the health and structure of your teeth.
It is critical not to consume products that stain teeth for up to the next 48 hours, such as coffee, red wine, tobacco, tea, some fruits, tomato sauce, etc. If followed, the results will continue to get even better during this time.
This varies from person to person, depending on your diet and habits.
